Electrical Engineering Department
One week online faculty development program (FDP) on
Advanced Power Converters for Industrial Applications
28th April 2nd May, 2020
This is a very hard time to all of us due to COVID-19 and everyone is staying at home due to lockdown in India. In this situation, Electrical Engineering Department of SSBTs College of Engineering & Technology, Bambhori, Jalgaon had organized one week ONLINE faculty development program (OFDP) on Advanced Power Converters for Industrial Applications during 28th April 2ndMay, 2020 as per Vision and Mission of the institute and Department.
During the lockdown all over the country, we had125 participants joining over and out from various sectors as well as from various parts of the country like Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, and also from places like Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Nasik, Amravati, Shegaon etc. of Maharashtra. The FDP was free of cost.
The main objective of this program was to update faculty members and industry person about the use of advanced power electronic systems in various industrial applications. The program aims to address key issues such as designing, modeling, implementation, analysis and study of associated power electronic controllers for monitoring and protection of various appliances for industrial use.
The following sessions were conducted by eminent speakers and researchers, from all over India:

Dr. Krishna Kumar Gupta delivered a session on Multilevel Inverter. He explained the working of
inverter, its types & function of each stage in detail. He has also focused on needs and types of
multilevel inverters & explained about the reduction in harmonics and other power quality issues
due to use of Multilevel Inverter. He has given idea for various research opportunities in this
field.
Dr. Lalit Kumar Sahu has delivered a session on Role of Power Electronic in Electrical Vehicles.
He has explained the complete structure & working of Electrical Vehicle. He has also focused on
electric motor selection criteria and control of motor used in Electric Vehicles using power
electronic devices. He briefly delivered the various batteries used in Electric Vehicle along with
its charging mechanism and ratings calculations. He has given insight of the future and need of
Electric Vehicle along with the opportunities of research and employments in this sector.
Dr. Suman Kadwane has presented main principal of Control of DC to DC converters & Z
Source grid tied inverter. These converters are drastically used in industry as well as in research.
One of the main limitations of these converters is unregulated supply of voltage and current. To
overcome these problems there are various control techniques used in combination with these
converters. Further, he summarized few of these control techniques. Some well-known control
techniques are Voltage mode control (VMC), Current mode control (CMC), PID, Sliding mode
(SM) control and fuzzy logic control. He has also discussed on the advantages and disadvantages
of these techniques with basic operating principle.
Dr. M. A. Mulla has delivered a session on Recent advances on solar water pumping system. He
made participants to understand what solar PV System is& how it can be used in solar pumping
system with the practical demonstration to its applications in farming system. He covered all the
aspects of solar pumping motors and its control using power electronic circuits such as charge
3 controller, inverters in details. He has given insight for calculations of solar PV modules ratings
for required motor power.
Dr. Rohtash Dhiman presented on Genetic Algorithm tuned input line current wave shaping
filter. He has explained different algorithm techniques for current wave shaping filter and its
designing.
Following faculty members were involved, for successful conduction and organization of the
program
Dr. Paresh J. Shah, Professor & Head, Electrical Engineering Department
Dr. Prashant V. Thakre, Professor, Electrical Engineering Department
Mr. Dhanesh S. Patil, Assistant Professor, Electrical Department
Mr. Nilesh S. Mahajan, Assistant Professor, Electrical Department
Mr. Amol C. Wani, Assistant Professor, E & TC Engineering Department
Overall it is observed that the first FDP conducted online is successful, which is really need of the hour due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Thanking you
